I don’t know about your house, but here at Hacienda Murray we have thinned the Halloween candy bucket down to the third-tier candies. Sorry Smarties and Jolly Ranchers, but you will always play second and third fiddle to the holy trinity of Halloween treats: Snickers, Twix and Reeses, always.
Thus, we look ahead to the approaching holiday season. But, this year we have added an occasion about which we are pretty excited. Friendsgiving!
Friendsgiving is the newer, more jovial, less pressure-filled twist on the traditional Thanksgiving with family. Friendsgiving is like Thanksgiving only better. I’m hosting one for the LookNook ladies this year, and here is how it works: first, throw the ‘rules’ out the window. Since toting around a cooked turkey is no bueno, it makes sense that the host is responsible for cooking a stuffed turkey. But….
My guests aren’t wild about turkey and they don’t tend to eat much meat. So, I decided it might be fun to do, in LookNook parlance, a Trad-Mod-Eclectic spin on typical the Thanksgiving menu. I’m thinking I might stuff butterflied chicken breasts and perhaps top them with a mole sauce. I haven’t committed yet, but I’ll let you know how it goes. When given the green light to deviate from typical menus, the possibilities become endless. The role of cranberries, for example, could use a makeover. Perhaps instead of the globulous can of cranberry jelly, you create a signature cocktail featuring cranberries (I say that like I’m all fancy. Cranberry Jello shots are a distinct possibility. I’m not even gonna lie.) See where I’m going with this?
Friendsgiving, by definition, is an invitation to quirk the guestlist as well. If you love hanging out with your family, invite them. On the other hand, maybe you’d like just one holiday during which you don’t have to worry over who is seated next to your creepy cousin. Now, if you are the kind of friend that loves to force your pals into socially awkward situations, then by all means, invite your pals AND your creepy cousin, get to pouring the wine, and let the fun begin. Besides, nothing says holiday memories quite like awkward pleasantries and drinking too much.
So, you’ve got a menu as creative and charming as your guestlist. And, your guests bring a beverage and a side dish, appetizer, or a dessert. All that’s left to do is thrown down round the table! Pumpkin ice cream cake with biscoff crust anyone? Caramelized onion and gorgonzola mashed potatoes? No? You’d rather have a store bought pumpkin pie and your Aunt’s lumptastic unsalted potatoes? Stay home. Friendsgiving is for setting your table and getting your grub on, which reminds me: dress code. Wear your ‘eatin’ pants. Cheers!
In addition to enjoying a delightful Friendsgiving, LookNook invites you to enjoy some Trad-Mod-Eclectic designs to go with your Trad-Mod-Eclectic festive occasion. Enjoy!
